I will start by clarifying

"I will start by clarifying why I chose three stars. It is not because I think bad things, it's in the middle so my opinion is neither good nor bad but right down the middle. We are taught that you roll charts not fold them. Folding charts appears an obvious choice that is probably made for convenience and cost. However the reality is, it is a folded chart that is used for training and it has its shortcomings, specifically, a fold can effect a measurement. It may be small but it does in-fact have a possibility for effecting measurements. I have other thoughts but that is the first one that comes to mind and I'll stick to one."

Great for practice

"I ordered a second chart for extra practice since I was worried about chart plotting by hand. It wasn’t as difficult as I expected, but the charts are nice quality. Because it is folded, the creases made it a little though to use the parallel rulers."

The Loran lines are archaic

"The Loran lines are archaic and create a big distraction. Any way to get a cleaner training chart?"

I used only the MLS

"I used only the MLS materials and scored as follows Plotting - 100% Rules Of The Road - 98% Navigation - 88% Deck - 100% I’m sure the questions I missed were the ones that they have some obscure answers or I just failed to read the question properly. I also received a 98 on masters upgrade, 100 on towing endorsement, at a 85 on sailing (again I know I made stupid mistakes on that module and got in a hurry). In all you can see my grades were pretty darn good, but I studied and quizzed and took notes on those tougher questions. The class gave me a good foundation in preparation. In the end it comes down to ones commitment to use these materials as a true study guide, by themselves they won’t just make you a genius on the subject matter. The course gives you the tools to use that you have to personally put the effort in to study, learn, remember, test, and then actually apply on the water at the helm."
