You may need a Marine Radio Operator Permit, or MROP, if you operate a required radiotelephone station aboard certain Great Lakes vessels, vessels over 300 gross tons, vessels carrying more than six passengers for hire, or certain aviation and coast stations.
The Marine Radio Operator Permit is an FCC-issued permit for operators of certain marine, aviation, and coast radiotelephone stations. The FCC operator class code for this permit is MP.
An MROP may be required if you operate a radiotelephone station in one of these situations:
To qualify for the Marine Radio Operator Permit, you must pass FCC Element 1, the written exam covering basic radio law and operating practices.
In addition to passing Element 1, applicants must meet these requirements:
