How can I take my captain’s license exam online?  

Taking an exam, whether online or in person, can be a bit nerve-wracking. We simplify the process of earning your captain's license - from Six-Pack to Master captain's license - by offering an online testing option.

  • Reliable Internet Connection and Computer Requirements: You'll need a high-speed Internet connection and a desktop or laptop equipped with a webcam and microphone
  • Quiet Testing Environment: Choose a quiet area with minimal interruptions and distractions
  • Clear Workspace: Keep your testing area free of papers, books, phones, and other clutter
  • Download Software: Access your exam by downloading our software through your classroom account

What is an acceptable form of photo identification?

During our online proctored exam start-up sequence, you will need to provide a valid photo ID, so we can verify it is you taking the exam. You can provide the camera with any of the following legible photocopies of USCG-recognized photo identification:  

  • U.S. driver's license
  • U.S. Passport, Foreign Passport 
  • Law enforcement credential, with a photograph of the applicant, issued by Federal, State, or local government 
  • U.S. Military identification card 
  • Official identification card issued by a State or local government 
  • Official identification card issued by the Federal Government 
  • Merchant Marine Document issued after February 3, 2003 

 

What chart plotting tools can I use during the chart plotting module of the OUPV/Six-Pack final exam?

During the chart plotting module of your OUPV/Six-Pack final exam, you are allowed to use the following tools:

  • Parallel rulers
  • Dividers
  • Yardstick
  • Triangles
  • Parallel protractors
  • Parallel plotters
